Record number with 281 entries from 58 countries and regions around the world! This fall the competition will be held as the main content of the light festival “TOKYO LIGHTS”

This year marks the 11th edition of the ‘1minute Projection Mapping Competition’ (hereinafter “1min competition”), one of the world’s premier projection mapping events and it will be held at Meijijingu Gaien from September 8th to September 10th, 2023.

Additionally, in November, the “Winners Exhibition” will be held at the same location, bringing together the works of all past Grand Prize winners!
The Seitoku Memorial Picture Gallery will shine twice with different expressions.

The 1min competition and winner’s exhibition will continue to be held as the main content of “TOKYO LIGHTS,” a light festival that has become a new light tradition in Tokyo.
TOKYO LIGHTS will have GReeeeN as the official ambassador, Yumi Wakatsuki as the special guest, and Harry Sugiyama as the main MC for the International Projection Mapping Awards Ceremony, making the festival of lights exciting.

Concerning the “1minute Projection Mapping Competition” in September

The 1minute Projection Mapping Competition is the only international projection mapping competition in Japan where you can see high-level and unique works submitted by creators from all over the world at the same time. This year marks the 11th edition of the tournament, and it is attracting attention around the world for its history and influence.
Projection mapping works with different themes and short durations of 1 minute to 1 minute 59 seconds are collected each time, and competition is held to find the best expression in the world that year.
This year’s international competition solicited entries under the theme of “LINK,” and received a record 281 entries from 58 countries and regions around the world.

Concerning the Winners Exhibition in November

1minute Projection Mapping Competition has really grown from its start in 2012 to nowadays with various historical backgrounds and with many creators from all over the world, regardless of origin or nationality.
The last time it was held was the 10th time, and this exhibition, which builds on that history, is a dream competition between the winners of this competition who are the world’s top creators.

Concerning TOKYO LIGHTS 2023

TOKYO LIGHTS”, which started in 2021, is a light event that sends messages for the future as a new feature of Tokyo. The word “LIGHTS” in TOKYO LIGHTS has various meanings, such as “vision” indicating future possibilities, “innovative” indicating expressive technology, “human resources” who will be responsible for the future, and “community” that nurtures and gathers them. By collecting these “lights” and using their chemical reactions a shining message of hope is sent from Tokyo to the world.

At TOKYO LIGHTS, 1minute Projection Mapping Competition will be held at the Seitoku Memorial Picture Gallery, and the “Festival of Light Area” will be held at the Meiji Jingu Gaien Softball Stadium, which combines light art and music, allowing you to enjoy the entire venue.

Concerning the “Festival of Light Area” of TOKYO LIGHTS

The “Festival of Light Area” is equipped with advanced entertainment that will give you the feeling of traveling through an extraordinary world of lights, and you can enjoy a wide variety of experiences throughout the area. Top creators such as Minoru Fujimoto, who worked as a “choreographer of light” and created LED performances for the opening ceremonies of international events, will join forces to create a festival of lights.

The production concept is “LINK TOKYO”. We will connect the charms of Tokyo illuminated in various lights and communicate its future and happiness to the world.

Additionally, artist Ray Kunimoto is in charge of composing the theme song for the entire area. It creates an intimate connection between the audience viewing the area and listening to the music, and the space in which the work itself is located. In addition, the entire space will be produced by IMAGICA EEX Inc., which utilizes advanced video technology and cutting-edge technology to create unprecedented live entertainment and new experience spaces.

In addition to an immersive entertainment space that combines digital sound art and real performances that make bold use of the venue, you can also enjoy food and drinks.

■At the Festival of Light, The traditional Japanese colors “red” and “blue” will represent Tokyo

This year, the Festival of Light will be held in September and November in traditional Japanese colors.
Among them, it is expressed using “red” and “blue”, which are considered to be “representative colors”.

September’s theme is “TOKYO RED”, which is based on the color red.
The coloring is reminiscent of “festivals” and “autumn leaves”, and will brighten up the red carpet production reminiscent of the Academy Awards ceremony scheduled for an international convention.

<TOKYO LIGHTS 2023 Nov.BLUE>

November’s theme is “TOKYO BLUE” which is based on the color blue.
Expressing “Edo style” and “Japan blue”. Indigo, also known as the “winning color”, is the color that symbolizes the Winners Exhibition, where Grand Prix winners from the past international competitions gather, further boosting the excitement.

*We are promoting HTT initiatives by covering the electricity used on the day from in-house power generation using biofuels and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs).

If you want to watch the “1minute Projection Mapping Competition” held in front of the Memorial Picture Gallery in the viewing area, you will need this ticket.
You can also enter the “Festival of Light Area”.

You can enter the “Festival of Light Area”. Admission is free. You cannot enter the International Convention viewing area.
