A packed venue ▼ 1minute Projection Mapping Competition "Winners Exhibition" Area Report On the second and third days, amidst the crisp, clear, and cold air, the audience was captivated throughout by the diverse array of high-quality works projected onto the historic, massive Seito Memorial Art Gallery. These works could be described with many adjectives: fantastical, colorful, avant-garde, and more. Although the first official day saw visitors viewing in cold rain, the addition of lasers and moving lights—a first for this project—to the projection mapping created an even more fantastical effect. I thank everyone involved in this festival and everyone who visited this place. I wish you all good health. ─ Julia Shamsheieva│Ukraine This international competition, held for over 10 years, has greatly influenced the progress of projection mapping not only in Southeast Asia but worldwide. I'm very grateful to have participated. This time, the building was challenging, and combining it with lasers and moving lights was a first for us. This experience was pure creativity. Thanks to this, we can challenge ourselves with even more new things in the future. Thank you!─ Sembilan Matahari│Indonesia ▼ Interview with Michiyuki Ishi, Overall Festival Producer Q. This exhibition marked the 10th anniversary of the international competition. How did it feel after it concluded? It was a truly remarkable exhibition that made you feel the history of projection mapping. You could sense the history and evolution this international competition has built over more than a decade, along with the passion of the creators behind it. After watching, I felt a surge of emotion welling up inside. It was a deeply moving, wonderful show. Q. The powerful lasers and moving lights were impressive. How did they work as projection mapping expressions? They were excellent. Using lasers and moving lights was a first for this competition, but they complemented the projection mapping exceptionally well. It was also a great opportunity to expand the creators' expressive range. I hope all the creators and artists will continue to come up with innovative ideas that no one has ever seen before. Q. What are your future prospects? From the dawn of projection mapping to the present, we've seen not only improvements in equipment performance but also the emergence of new technologies and expression methods, such as AI generation. And in the future, new technologies we can't even imagine yet may appear. I believe the expression of works should always evolve. Therefore, this international competition will also adapt to the times, incorporate new technologies, and constantly evolve alongside creators and artists. 【November 10–12】Winner Exhibition and Screening Details Announced!

2023.10.20

Three days of artistic splendor in autumn, brought to life by the world's top creators against the backdrop of Meiji Jingu Gaien at night. We are pleased to announce the details of the works to be screened at the “Winners Exhibition” held at the Meiji Jingu Gaien Seito Memorial Art Museum from Friday, November 10 to Sunday, November 12, 2023. These are video art works by top creators from Indonesia, Japan, Belgium, Macau, Germany, Ukraine, Italy, China, and Hungary—all winners of the world's largest international projection mapping competition, the '1minute Projection Mapping Competition' (hereinafter referred to as the International Competition), and active at the forefront of the global scene. ▼ Winner Exhibition Screening Works Introduction (Title・Concept) ※★ Creator/Artist Name / (Reading) │ Grand Prix Winning Year / Country/Region ★ EPER DIGITAL / Eper Digital │ 2022 / Hungary Title: Fragments What connects humans and machines, digital and physical? We continue to explore this question. Through music, it examines how opposites harmonize and influence the surrounding space and objects. ★ THE FOX, THE FOLKS | 2021 / Indonesia Title: HAPPY? HAPPY! HAPPY? HAPPY! expresses the often-forgotten joy of living. Happiness arises from unexpected events and human connections. An angry tiger reevaluates itself, joins parades and parties, and spreads happiness to those around it. Even unpredictable events might lead to new joys! ★ Julia Shamsheieva | 2019 / Ukraine Title: WINDOW TO U This work is part of a series dedicated to the world's transformation. Japan's support for Ukraine symbolizes bonds transcending distance and cultural differences. This piece is dedicated to Mr. Fumitaka Tsuchiko, who relocated from Tokyo to Kharkiv to aid the Ukrainian people, and to all who could not remain indifferent to such great tragedy. Kindness knows no borders; when everyone unites, the world can change. ★ Li Cheng │ 2018 / China Title: Magic Space Flowers and plants receive diverse energies from the earth and air, growing, blooming, and leaving seeds behind. Behind the beauty of flowers lies their connection to everything in their environment. This invisible energy magically blooms the flowers, delighting our eyes and giving us strength and hope. ★ Antaless Visual Design │ 2017 / Italy Title: •EVOLVING SPACE• Taking deconstructivist architecture—a branch of postmodern architecture—as its theme, it transforms objects, materials, and structures. By reflecting the deconstruction process inherent in deconstructivist architecture on its exterior, it expresses a space that counters its own architectural limitations. Deconstruction is neither mere technique nor cumbersome structure. ★ EuroVideoMapping/EuroVideoMapping │ 2016/Germany・Ukraine Title: Vinculum Long ago, life arrived on Earth from outer space. Lifeforms sharing a common origin have evolved, yet the new lifeforms surrounding us possess many shared traits and are connected by an invisible network. Through this link, we communicate and exchange information and the energy of life. ★ Neba Studio | 2015 / Macau The motif is the "Ouroboros," a symbolic figure from ancient mythology. The serpent eating its own tail represents a link without beginning or end, signifying eternal cycles, regeneration, infinity, and endless connection. It links to the world, nature, life and death, questioning how humans should connect with the world. ★ Maxime Guislain | 2014 / Belgium | Work Title: Butterfly Effect Everything is connected. Even the simple flutter of a butterfly's wings can lead to significant consequences. This project explores how this butterfly influences a building, triggering a chain reaction that evolves its facade, transporting us across time and into diverse environments. ★ FLIGHTGRAF | 2013 / Japan Title: Connected The theme "LINK" evoked for us the Life Game, which observes the cycle of life and death. Observing the world's current state from above, there are times it feels as if someone is manipulating it. Are we connected somewhere, or were we already connected? This work poses that question to the audience. ★ Sembilan Matahari/Sembilan Matahari │ 2012/Indonesia Work Title: JapaNMenyala This work centers on weaving the story of Garuda, Indonesia's pride. Garuda is a mythical bird cherished by the Indonesian people. This expression of light, called Menyala in Bahasa, signifies an emotional reunion that bridges 11 years of friendship and fosters unity. About the Event This winner's exhibition will be held as the main content of 'TOKYO LIGHTS', a festival of light that has become a new seasonal tradition in Tokyo. ~ Governor Koike gave a congratulatory speech and awarded a prize plate, and we look forward to the winners“ exhibition to be held in November. The ”1 Minute Projection Mapping Competition,” one of the world's largest international projection mapping competitions, was successfully held at the Seitoku Memorial Picture Gallery in Meiji Jingu Gaien on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Although the first day of the competition, Friday, September 8, was cancelled due to a typhoon, the remaining days, September 9 and 10, were successfully held. The winner of this year's international competition, which had the largest number of entries in its history, was Vali Chincișan from Romania. The work, entitled ”Legacy Links,“ was created in response to this year's theme of ”LINK,“ and uses AI-based animation to express the history of ancient civilizations and the connections between the present and the past. Unfortunately, Ms. Zsolt Bordos was unable to visit Japan herself, but Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike attended the award ceremony and handed the prize plate to the substitute juror, László Zsolt Bordos. The Governor of Tokyo said, ”Vali Chincișan, congratulations very much. There were so many high level works gathered here. I am sure there are many creators who will go on to become global leaders from here. We are all connected in this world and every action has a reaction. Every human, plant, and animal has a purpose, and we all depend on and influence each other in invisible ways. We imagine these invisible connections and describe the mechanism as a complex puzzle, like dominoes. We visualize how good behavior sets off a positive and seductive chain reaction, how happiness is contagious and changes the color of the world.
