The 13th International Projection Mapping Competition

The 13th 1minute Projection Mapping Competition

Competition Theme

Dialogue

Introduction

This competition invites creators to compete through short works ranging from 1:00 to 1:59 minutes. Within this brief duration, participants are challenged to showcase their technical skill, artistic individuality, and the ability to deliver new experiences and emotional impact to both the audience and the jury.

From 2021 to 2024, the competition was held at the Meijijingu Gaien’s Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery. Beginning this year, the venue shifts to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Recognized by Guinness World Records as the "Largest architectural projection-mapped display (permanent)", the venue has already gained global attention. As one of Tokyo’s symbolic landmarks—with its tall, vertical scale—this massive architecture offers a highly rewarding challenge for creators.

We look forward to receiving many submissions and seeing your most ambitious works.

Dialogue

Since the beginning of this century—and especially after the global COVID-19 pandemic—our modes of communication, the technologies we rely on, and the distances between us have undergone significant change. As technological development accelerates and the world becomes more diverse and complex, “dialogue” has become an increasingly important theme. Dialogue can take many forms: between people, between cities and nature, between the past and the future, between humanity and AI or other living beings, and even within oneself. It is an expressive encounter where different entities meet, influence each other, and create meaning together.

As we look toward the future, what kinds of dialogue will be necessary, and what kind of future can be envisioned through them? Beyond spoken language, dialogue can emerge through confronting unfamiliar elements, accepting differences, creating intersections, and shaping relationships. We invite you to expand this idea into a dialogue between your work and the viewers, and to explore new possibilities through your creation.
