~ TOKYO LIGHTS“ is a new light festival in Tokyo that sends out a message to the future.
The Projection Mapping Association of Japan (headquartered in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Michiyuki Ishida, President) has planned the ”TOKYO LIGHTS 2023 International Symposium“ to be held on September 10, 2023, as a new attempt for the ”TOKYO LIGHTS 2023" light festival to be held in September 2023. LIGHTS 2023 International Symposium (hereinafter referred to as the "International Symposium"), which will be held on September 10, 2023.
Two festival directors of the world's leading light festivals, which attract millions of visitors each time and contribute greatly to inbound demand, have been invited to the symposium to learn about the nighttime situation in the world. We will also analyze the actual situation in Japan, and together with content providers and those involved in tourism, we will discuss how to build momentum through cooperation among various organizations and businesses.

Ticket sales to the general public for this international symposium have been very favorable, indicating that the symposium has attracted a great deal of attention, especially from industry professionals.
The first part of the symposium will feature keynote speeches by two festival directors: "VIVID SYDNEY," the world's largest urban light festival in Sydney, Australia, and "Fète des Lumières" in Lyon, France, which has a long history of influencing other light festivals around the world. Two directors of these festivals will take the stage and talk about the real situation behind the scenes of these world-class night-time tourism festivals centered on light and art.
In the "Part 2: Session + Panel Discussion," in addition to the festival directors visiting Japan, Michiyuki Ishida, founder of the "TOKYO LIGHTS" light festival and general producer of one of the world's largest international projection mapping competitions, and László László, a creator active in the front lines of projection mapping in the world, will speak about the realities behind the festival. Julien Pavillard has a long career in urban and artistic activities, including the organization of art festivals throughout France, and is a long-time expert in social activities related to light and images. He has been involved for more than 10 years as the coordinator of the "Fete des Lumières", a light festival with a long history in Lyon, France. This light festival has established itself as the largest tourist attraction in Lyon, attracting 3 to 4 million visitors in just 3 to 4 days of festivities.
VIVID SYDNEY Festival Director Gill Minervini Gill Minervini
Creative director, producer, curator, and consultant with over 30 years of experience directing festivals and large-scale events, Gill Minervini was appointed Festival Director of VIVID SYDNEY in March 2021 and will continue as Festival Director in 2022 and 2023. He continues to work on this project.

Michiyuki Ishida is an artist and director who creates one-of-a-kind works and projects in Japan and abroad. In recent years, he has been working on a wide range of projects, including international conventions, exhibitions, scenography, live performances, stage productions, international projects, tourism, public projects, and human resource development such as workshops and university lecturers, with a focus on projection mapping. He is also involved in a wide range of projects, including "TOKYO LIGHTS," a light festival in Tokyo, "NIGHT WAVE," which makes ocean waves glow blue, night walks, art projects, etc. He has been involved in many projects that take advantage of the characteristics of each region.
