Invited Artist: Work Introduction

◆ AVA Animation & Visual Arts (Canada)

作品タイトル:Eudaimonia(ユーダイモニア)Work Title: Eudaimonia

Work Concept:
"Eudaimonia" is a word meaning happiness. In this world, we are all connected, and every action has a reaction. All humans, plants, and animals have purpose, and we all depend on and influence each other in invisible ways. We imagine these invisible connections and express their mechanisms as a complex puzzle, like dominoes. We visualized how good actions trigger positive, captivating chain reactions, how happiness spreads like an infection, and how it gradually changes the world's colors.

Profile:
A Canadian-based animation studio whose creed is "delivering joy to people through experience and visuals." Its pop and vibrant visuals boast high creativity, and it operates internationally as a comprehensive production house that also incorporates technical expertise.

◆ László Zsolt Bordos (Hungary)

作品タイトル:reshape(リシェイプ)Work Title: reshape

Work Concept:
This "reshape" represents the potential to alter a building's appearance by projecting images onto it. Using projector light, the images can virtually reshape the structure, altering how the building is perceived and experienced through projection, bringing new interpretations and contexts. Just as light transforms space, this work expresses the transformation of architecture through imagery. To enhance this experience, it synchronizes sound and animation, stimulating both auditory and visual senses simultaneously.

Profile:
Since 2000, he has created works utilizing projection mapping. Through abstract 3D animations and projection mapping pieces employing unprecedented expressions, he is recognized as one of the pioneers in this genre. In 2020-2021, he co-founded the Art Of Light Organization (ALO) and initiated the Light Art Declaration.

Opening Projection Mapping Show Supervised by GReeeeN

Under the supervision of GReeeeN, the official ambassador for “TOKYO LIGHTS 2023,” a collaboration with dancers has also been realized. Using four songs—"Hoshikage no Eru," "Midori Iro," "WONDERFUL," and "Bokura no Monogatari"—the performance combines projection mapping to create a sense of new beginnings.

Finalists: 20 Works

The 1minute Projection Mapping Competition 2023 recorded its highest number of entries ever. Twenty works that emerged victorious from this fierce competition and were selected as finalists will be projected at the Seito Memorial Art Gallery. This year also saw many entries utilizing AI, making these new forms of expression particularly noteworthy.

▼ What is TOKYO LIGHTS?

TOKYO LIGHTS, launched in 2021, is a light event that sends messages to the future as a new Tokyo tradition. The world's largest international projection mapping competition, the "1minute Projection Mapping Competition," will be held as the main content of TOKYO LIGHTS.
TOKYO LIGHTS' 'LIGHTS' embodies various meanings: a "vision" pointing to future possibilities, "advanced technology" showcasing expressive capabilities, "talent" poised to lead the way, and the "community" that nurtures and gathers these elements.
We will gather this "light" and deliver a message of hope shining through its chemical reaction from Tokyo to the world.
